A new generation of Filipino DJs and producers are breaking through internationally, representing Manila, Cebu, and beyond on stages from Berlin to Tokyo.
When Manila Killa performed at Coachella in 2024, it marked a watershed moment for Filipino electronic music. But the truth is, Filipino artists had been quietly building toward this moment for years.
Across the archipelago's 7,641 islands, a generation of DJs and producers have been developing sounds that draw from both the global electronic music tradition and the rich musical heritage of the Philippines.
"The Philippines has always had an incredibly rich musical culture," says Rob Caudillo, one of Manila's most respected selectors. "We grew up hearing rondalla, OPM, and American R&B side by side. That fusion is in our DNA."
This hybridity is precisely what makes Filipino electronic music so compelling to international ears.
